EJS Counselling & Psychotherapy

Part of being a qualified and professional counsellor means I have had counselling as part of my training and will be in and out of therapy for the rest of my career when I feel it necessary for my own self care. This is how I know how difficult it can be to take that first step and how hard it can be to continue and shape my practice around what you as individuals need. I also undertake regular supervision every month and hold professional indemnity insurance.

I am a Registered Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice and subject to its Codes of Practice. I am on the DBS register and hold Certificates from Suffolk County Council & LINK Barnardo's.

I am also an Approved LINK Adoption Counsellor with Barnardo's Adoption Agency whom are registered to provide adoption placement and support services.

BACP writes -
In England, the law states that a counselling practitioner must not provide any counselling, advice, assistance, and information in which the focus of the work is on an adoption-related issue, unless the therapist is either: registered as an adoption support agency with Ofsted; or working as an employee or under a contract for services with an adoption support agency; and the therapy work undertaken is in the context of that employment or contract.

If you are a client who wishes to employ me on a private (non-link funded) basis, I will need to ask you to complete a referral form for Barnardo's to ensure that I am allowed under British Law to work with you. Once you have notified Barnardo's that I am the therapist you wish to employ we can begin the process.

Prior to being a counsellor I worked for many years in retail & hospitality before switching career to work with mental health & disability. I began training as a counsellor in 2006. I have been running my counselling & psychotherapy practice full time since 2010, working in a variety of settings as a consultant and therapist (Mental Health Services, Schools, Charities) and have specialist knowledge around working with survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, and I am also registered and trained through LINK to support clients with difficulties linked to adoption or fostering.

"It is the need of every single one of us, child or grown up to feel wanted, to feel we belong and that we matter in the world"

In addition to adult, child/young person & couple counselling in private practice, I provided group staff support in prisons for RAPT (Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust). I have experience as a School Counsellor for children & adolescents (7-18 year olds) at schools in Suffolk and Essex. I have also facilitated children's groups for Compassion a Suffolk based charity working with Domestic Violence & Abuse.

Eco-Psycholgy & Nature Based Practice

From an early age I have always found connection to nature and getting to know my dwelling place has supported my personal & professional self care. In recent years have been training in ecopsychology. I hold an Accredited Advanced Diploma in Eco Psychology and Nature Based Practice from Natural Academy, Bristol.

I have learned that by bringing people into contact with nature they can begin heal from personal issues, trauma and mental illness.
I have also learned that when people develop a relationship with the natural world they tend to respect and care for it in new and meaningful ways.
